From Small Beginnings

Spartan Peripheral Devices' parent company, Brosco Controls, was incorporated in 1969.  It started as a controls contracting service company, and after receiving the Barber Colman (subsequently SIEBE, now Invensys) dealership for Quebec, the company expanded into new construction and became a major control contractor in Montreal and the surrounding area.  The control projects ranged from office towers, hospitals, schools and airports throughout Quebec.  For Brosco to maintain its competitive edge it started to incorporate different imported products from Europe into its installations.  This subsequently led to introducing Cazzaniga control valves into North America.  To appease the conflict of interest in the product lines, Spartan Peripheral Devices was incorporated in 1984.  Spartan expanded the importation of products from other companies, such as Controlli, RBM, and MNG.  Sales of these products reached such volumes that in 1991, we chose to relinquish the Barber Colman representation, and put all efforts into increased product manufacturing.  Brosco Controls became inactive, and Spartan Peripheral Devices gradually built its own valve and actuator product line and completely eliminated imports by 1995.  Our strong control contracting background and our on the job experiences through the years, enable Spartan to design all the products and manufacturing processes.

A Wealth of Product

Spartan Peripheral Devices is a Canadian manufacturer of control valves, actuators and thermostats.  We manufacture zone valve bodies in 1/2", 3/4", and 1" sizes, with a choice of connections in American NPT or metric BSP threads.  Unique multi Cv cartridges offer in line resizing and service.  Large choice of connections in American NPT or metric BSP threads.  Large choices of interchangeable actuators, spring return and non spring return versions, range from thermostatic, thermoelectric, electric, 2 position On/Off,  floating, pulse width modulatiion, 0-10Vdc modulating and pneumatic.  We manufacture system valves in 1", 1 1/2", 2" and 3" sizes, with unique variable speed and variable ratio linkages that can incorporate all manufacturers rotary type actuators.  Our product line is complimented by large globe valve bodies from 4" to 8" sizes and butterfly valves in 2 and 3 way configuration.

Supplying Major Integrators

Spartan Peripheral Devices supplies control valves and actuators to all major Building Automation Systems Integrators such as Teletrol, Alerton, Delta, KMC, and Automated Logic along with many others.   We privately label products for many customers as well as sell to OEM accounts like Floodmaster, Change Air (fan coil manufacturer), Rosemex (baseboard heaters), Albion (combi boilers) and others.  Our products are featured by ALPS and Kele; international online buying groups.

A Worldwide Client List

Spartan Peripheral Devices products are installed in a long list of projects throughout the world.  Office towers including the 80 story IBM building in Manhattan, and the 45 story, 1000 Lagauchetiere, in Montreal.  Museums and libraries such as the War Museum in Ottawa, Parliament Buildings and Superior Court in Ottawa, and the Quebec Legislature in Quebec City.  Various hospitals including the Lakeshore General Hospital in Montreal and Lakeridge Hospital in Ontario.  University campuses including McGill in Montreal, Univesrity of Guelph in Ontario, Perdue University in Indiana, and The University of New Hampshire.

A Major Exporter

Spartan Peripheral Devices exports its products to the following countries, United States of America, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Kuwait, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and Brazil.  In 2008 we received our very first export contract in China.  Our strong commitment to exports is allowing Spartan Peripheral Devices to participate in large projects around the world, such as the District International Financial Center in Dubai, OGD Offshore Gas Development in UAE, The International Airport Terminal in Cairo, Egypt, The Children's Museum and a hospital in Amman Jordan, the Verizon Project in South Africa, and The Regency Hotel in Bahrain.

Innovation and Growth Into The Future

Our 2008 expansion into thermostats will provide Spartan with the added ability to compete with a thermostat and valve package in areas such as condominiums and apartment blocks; a segment of the market that we were not involved with before, as our concentration was in the control contractor segment of the market.  Spartan's innovative past has led us to attain several North American and Worldwide patents.

New Products to Excite the Market

Our R & D department is continually innovating new products.  We introduced wireless valve actuators at the 2008 AHR exhibition.  We are also working in the direction of a flow measurement and an adjustable Cv/Balancing control valve.
