Spartan supplies Norwich University a perfect retrofit solution

Since 1866, a valley within the Green Mountains of Vermont in the town of Northfield, Washington County has been the home of Norwich University. Norwich University is special within the town of Northfield, not just because it is the main employer of the town but also of its longstanding heritage and the two diverse curriculums it offers.

In March of 2010 when the University had to perform a control project they looked at what would keep Norwich University as integral as possible. The University had in place Honeywell Braukmann zone control valves with thermostatic actuators. They wanted to convert in to electric controls and had 2 choices: they could replace the entire valve assembly which would mean perhaps going against the integrity of the campus and high labor costs, or they could retrofit the actuators and keep as much originality as possible. Unfortunately Honeywell no longer provided electric actuators that would fit on to the original valve bodies. Norwich University found their solution in Spartan Peripheral Devices. For 200 valve assemblies Spartan delivered our AV10 retrofit kit. (Yoke adaptor for Honeywell Braukmann V110 40mm valve to Spartan actuators) and our ME1601 (24vac, Direct acting, PWM, fail stem up, Thermoelectric actuator). Spartan dos not stop there! If in the future the university requires to service this original valve bodies Spartan can deliver EBH110 packing/plunger kit for direct replacement of the valve body internals.

Spartan Peripheral Devices’ V411 and V431 Universal 2-way and 3-way valve bodies have been specifically designed as the perfect response to customers’ requests for reduced inventory. This universality also gives the installer an opportunity to easily make any last minute modifications from a 2-way to a 3-way body if constant flow or bypass relief is required.
We are often asked a question if this was the best thing to do; that is using a bottom or side plug or flange to convert a 3-way in to a 2-way. In fact, all valve bodies are closed with a top or bottom flange after the internals are installed. The variations in the look of the valve cavity vary from manufacturer to manufacturer depending on how the valve seat, plug, stem and packing are designed.  For example:  a VB8213 series Invensys or Schneider Electric have a bottom blind flange installed on a 2-way valve body. Many others do the same thing in different ways.
Spartan Peripheral Devices designed this universality right from the start. The bottom portion of the valve plunger required for 3-way valves is always assembled in the body and even if it is not used in the 2-way valve the plunger bottom portion acts as a guide. Guided plugs are featured in the industrial valve bodies to prevent vibration at extreme differential pressures.
Many other features are included in our commercial valve body product line.
